Simon explains how to practise yoga in a way that allows you to stabilise the nine main joint complexes: ankles, knees, hips, waist, chest, neck, shoulders, elbows and wrists. The focus is on bandhas, which are subtle muscular co-activations (where one muscle is activated in coordination with another) that provide strength and stability, and also allow freedom of movement and increased flexibility. Bandhas help to enhance communication within the body.

Simon’s demonstration of the earth sequence is a unique combination of the Yoga Synergy method with qi-gong, an ancient Chinese exercise that uses movement with breath to manipulate energy flow in the body. The complete beginner practice is suitable for anyone who is able to sit comfortably on the floor and get up without assistance. Some of the postures require weight bearing on the arms and the ability to balance on one leg, although these postures can be omitted if necessary. Simon also demonstrates the intermediate sequence for anyone who would like to progress with the practice.
